In his new position, Shaw will lead Centara’s global development agenda and work across the group’s six brands to identify markets, projects and partnerships with strong long-term potential. His responsibilities, as this Bangkok Hotel Executives news report examines, will include expanding relationships with hotel owners, investors and development partners, assessing management and investment opportunities, and helping create a balanced pipeline designed to respond to changing traveller demand while strengthening Centara’s position across multiple hospitality segments.
Three Decades of International Experience

Building Centara’s Next Development Pipeline
Reporting directly to Michael Henssler, Chief Operating Officer of Centara Hotels & Resorts, Shaw will collaborate with the company’s executive leadership and regional teams. His remit includes evaluating strategic markets, securing management and investment opportunities, strengthening relationships with owners and ensuring future projects fit Centara’s brands while offering attractive value to owners and guests.
Shaw said Centara has a strong platform for future growth, pointing to its distinctive brand portfolio, hospitality expertise and Thai identity. He said his focus would be on converting those strengths into high-quality development opportunities, building lasting owner and investor relationships, entering markets where Centara’s brands can generate meaningful value and creating a portfolio capable of supporting the company’s long-term international ambitions.
Growth With Quality, Not Scale Alone
Henssler described the appointment as an important step in strengthening Centara’s ability to execute its long-term growth strategy. He highlighted Shaw’s combined experience in development, investment and asset management, noting that successful hotel expansion requires more than identifying opportunities; it also depends on structuring suitable partnerships and maintaining value throughout an asset’s operating life.
Centara’s message is that expansion will be measured by quality as much as quantity. The group wants the right brands in the right markets, supported by commercially sound projects and partners whose priorities align with its own. Shaw’s international perspective and understanding of owner requirements are expected to play a significant role in determining where and how that expansion takes shape.
The appointment therefore signals more than a senior management change: it places development discipline at the center of Centara’s next growth chapter, as the Thai hospitality group seeks to broaden its global footprint without sacrificing brand fit, owner value or long-term portfolio quality. For Centara, the challenge now will be converting strategic ambition into carefully selected, commercially durable hotel projects.
