Strategically positioned between Panama Bay and Culebra Bay and just 25 minutes from Liberia International Airport, the resort will deliver over 630 linear yards of pristine beachfront with sweeping views of the Gulf of Papagayo. This Hotel News report highlights that Marriott’s decision reflects a rising trend in high-end travel and branded residences across Central America. According to Uriel Burak, Vice President of Development for Marriott CALA, the move underscores the company’s commitment to investing in key destinations that offer both breathtaking natural beauty and strong tourism potential.
What Guests Can Expect at St Regis Papagayo
The new St. Regis Papagayo is poised to become one of the most luxurious resorts in the region. The property will feature 120 opulent guestrooms and 143 private residences, catering to a sophisticated clientele seeking both short-term indulgence and long-term investment. A major highlight is its culinary program—boasting six distinctive venues including a Japanese-Costa Rican fusion restaurant, a refined St. Regis Bar & Speakeasy, and a casual gourmet Casa Club. Guests will also enjoy access to an exclusive beach club, multiple pools, a wellness-focused spa, and the signature St. Regis Library.
Design will play a pivotal role in defining the guest experience. Esteemed Mexican architectural firm Sordo Madaleno, already collaborating with Marriott on other elite projects in Costa Mujeres, has been tapped for the design. Interior spaces will be curated by Gensler Mexico City, while Maat Handasa leads the landscape architecture. Ana Ramirez of Ancestral Handmade Hotels will shape the resort’s wellness offerings, and TalentChef will consult on the food and beverage experience. GFG Securities LLC supported Solana PA, S.R.L. in navigating the complex negotiations and financing structure.
Raising the Bar for Costa Rican Luxury
The project is more than just a hotel—it’s a powerful signal that Costa Rica is stepping fully into the spotlight as a global luxury travel destination. Alberto Halabe, Partner at Solana, emphasized the deep respect for Costa Rica’s ecological legacy and rich cultural heritage that underpins the project. The St. Regis brand, known for its blend of timeless glamour and forward-thinking innovation, will be tailored to resonate with the spirit of Pura Vida that defines Costa Rica’s national identity.
With this development, the St. Regis brand adds to its six existing properties across the Caribbean and Latin America, and introduces a new level of bespoke luxury to the Guanacaste coastline. Its debut is expected to not only boost tourism but also catalyze high-end real estate activity and elevate the region’s international profile.
As Costa Rica continues to evolve into a magnet for affluent travelers and discerning investors, the arrival of St. Regis Papagayo could redefine the nation’s place in the world of elite hospitality and experiential living.
