Murphy Zhu, President of H World Asia Pacific, emphasized that introducing JI Hotel to Malaysia and adding two new Cambodian projects aligns with the company’s Asia Pacific strategy. “We are extending the reach of one of our flagship brands while bringing the full power of H World’s supply chain, development expertise, and digital capabilities to new partners in the region,” he stated.
New Hotels in Key Locations
The first property in Malaysia, JI Hotel Downtown Kuala Lumpur, will be developed in partnership with Saadiq Tri Venture. Located in the Dang Wangi district, the 101-room hotel is expected to open in Q4 2026. Designed with JI Hotel 5.0 aesthetics, the property will combine oriental-inspired themes with contemporary comforts. Yang Shengwu, Chairman of Saadiq Tri Venture, shared that the brand’s proven success gave them confidence to introduce value-driven, high-quality hospitality to the Malaysian capital.
In Cambodia, H World signed two projects: JI Hotel Phnom Penh City Center, a 130-room redevelopment in the heart of the city’s government and business district set to open in Q2 2026, and JI Hotel Phnom Penh Mekong Riverside, a 110-room new build overlooking the Mekong River with planned opening in Q3 2026. Investors such as Liu Guangyu and Seng Leng highlighted that Phnom Penh’s midscale market is evolving quickly, and JI Hotel’s standardized but flexible model allows for sustainable long-term growth. The Mekong Riverside project will blend river-view dining with local Khmer cultural elements, aiming to deliver a stay experience that resonates with both business and leisure travelers.
Reinforcing Regional Growth Momentum
The new signings come on the heels of a series of aggressive moves by H World across Asia Pacific. Earlier this year, the group announced its first Steigenberger property in Phnom Penh and signed multiple hotels in Laos, including the first Orange Hotel outside China. It also launched MAXX Phnom Penh Downtown at the end of 2024, marking the brand’s Asia Pacific debut.
This year also marked the sixth anniversary of JI Hotel Orchard Road Singapore, the brand’s first overseas property, which has consistently performed well due to H World’s ability to integrate Chinese design philosophies with international hospitality standards. This success story gave H World the confidence to accelerate JI Hotel’s rollout across more Southeast Asian capitals.
The Asset Light Advantage
H World operates on an asset-light model that allows it to expand swiftly while leveraging strong operational efficiencies. The group focuses on building partnerships that maximize supply chain advantages, digital innovations, and standardized yet locally adapted models. By doing so, the company reduces risk while maintaining brand consistency and customer satisfaction across multiple geographies.
Murphy Zhu reiterated that the group’s aim is not only to grow its portfolio but also to strengthen the recognition of Chinese hotel brands in international markets. “Step by step, we are building long-term value for investors while delivering service excellence to travelers. Our ambition is to establish a global benchmark for Eastern hospitality on the international stage,” he said.
