IHG currently operates 17 hotels across eight brands in Taiwan, covering luxury and lifestyle, premium and essentials segments. The five newly signed properties are HUALUXE Taipei, Crowne Plaza Taitung Zhiben Hot Spring, Holiday Inn Pingtung City Center, voco Taipei Shihlin and Holiday Inn Express Taipei Shihlin. As this Hotel News report highlights, the expansion gives IHG a broader geographic reach while allowing the company to target travelers seeking everything from city breaks and business stays to hot-spring escapes and culturally focused experiences.
HUALUXE Makes Its Taiwan Debut
Among the most significant additions is HUALUXE Taipei, which will become the first HUALUXE Hotels & Resorts property in Taiwan.
The hotel is expected to introduce the brand’s culturally influenced hospitality concept to Taipei, with experiences shaped around local heritage, thoughtful service, tea culture, dining and social gatherings. Its arrival will add another distinctive upscale option to IHG’s growing Taipei portfolio while expanding HUALUXE into an important Asian travel market.
Daniel Aylmer, Chief Executive Officer, Greater China, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said Taiwan’s rich tourism resources and distinctive cultural heritage provide diverse opportunities for travelers. He added that the introduction of projects including HUALUXE demonstrates IHG’s commitment to addressing changing traveler requirements with a broader collection of brands and experiences.
Crowne Plaza Heads to Taitung’s Hot Spring Country
IHG is also targeting Taiwan’s leisure and wellness sector with Crowne Plaza Taitung Zhiben Hot Spring, which will introduce the Crowne Plaza brand to the renowned Zhiben Hot Spring destination in eastern Taiwan.
The development is expected to combine the area’s natural surroundings and famous hot springs with opportunities for local exploration. The property could help strengthen the international accommodation offering in Taitung while attracting travelers looking beyond Taiwan’s major metropolitan destinations.
The signing reflects a wider industry trend in which international hotel operators are increasingly looking at destinations capable of combining wellness, nature and authentic local experiences.

Pingtung Gains Its First International Branded Hotel
Further south, Holiday Inn Pingtung City Center is set to become the first international branded hotel in Pingtung.
That distinction makes the project particularly notable for the local hospitality market. The hotel is expected to introduce internationally recognized brand standards while providing another accommodation choice for domestic and overseas visitors exploring southern Taiwan.
For IHG, Pingtung also represents an opportunity to establish an early international-brand presence in a destination with considerable potential for leisure and regional travel.
Dual-Brand Project Expands IHG’s Taipei Presence
Taipei will receive another significant boost through a dual-brand development comprising voco Taipei Shihlin and Holiday Inn Express Taipei Shihlin.
voco Taipei Shihlin will become the voco brand’s first hotel in northern Taiwan and its first newly built property in the market. The hotel will take inspiration from Shihlin’s cultural heritage, commercial energy and local lifestyle, giving the brand an opportunity to establish a distinctive identity in one of Taipei’s best-known areas.
Holiday Inn Express Taipei Shihlin, meanwhile, will provide a more flexible accommodation proposition targeting business, leisure and short-stay guests.
Placing the two brands within one development should allow IHG to appeal to different traveler profiles while taking advantage of shared demand generated by Shihlin’s tourism attractions, shopping, dining and commercial activity.
Digital Expansion Accompanies Hotel Growth
IHG’s expansion strategy in Taiwan is not limited to physical hotels. The company has also launched the IHG One Rewards LINE MINI App, extending its loyalty programme through LINE, a digital platform widely used by Taiwanese consumers.
The service enables members to register, check points, review membership status and benefits, obtain hotel information and make reservations. IHG One Rewards has more than 160 million members worldwide, making digital engagement an increasingly important part of the group’s relationship with travelers.
IHG has also introduced promotional activities during August to support the app’s Taiwan launch. These include gamified experiences, opportunities to earn LINE Points, targeted promotions offering Live Nation Asia concert tickets and activities reserved for members.
The combination of hotel development and digital loyalty services indicates that IHG is pursuing growth in Taiwan on several fronts rather than relying solely on new property openings.
A Broader Push into Taiwan’s Hospitality Market
The five signings represent a substantial next stage for IHG in Taiwan, particularly because they extend the group into different destinations and introduce brands that have not previously had the same presence in the market. From HUALUXE’s Taiwan debut and Crowne Plaza’s arrival in Zhiben to Pingtung’s first internationally branded hotel and the dual-brand Shihlin development, the projects demonstrate a strategy built around geographic diversification and clearly differentiated guest experiences.
IHG says it intends to continue working with local owners and partners while expanding both its hotel portfolio and digital capabilities. As competition among international hospitality groups intensifies across Asia, the combination of new destinations, additional brands and more accessible loyalty services could give IHG a stronger platform for long-term growth in Taiwan.
With five hotels now added to the development pipeline and digital engagement becoming an increasingly prominent part of its strategy, IHG is positioning itself to capture demand from domestic and international travelers while broadening the choices available across Taiwan’s evolving hotel landscape. The expansion also underlines the continuing attraction of Taiwan to major global hospitality groups seeking opportunities beyond established gateway locations.
