Hotel News: Construction Finally Begins After Delay

After months of anticipation, construction is officially underway on the $385 million Grand Hyatt Miami Beach, a striking 17-story hotel set to become the crown jewel of the Miami Beach Convention Center District. The development, spanning nearly one million square feet, is being brought to life by MB Mixed Use Investment—a powerhouse joint venture between renowned South Florida developers Terra Group and Turnberry.

Initially slated to break ground in 2023, the project experienced delays until the developers secured a staggering $392 million in construction financing earlier this April. Now, with all systems go, London-based construction giant Balfour Beatty has mobilized crews to begin work on the high-profile venture. This Hotel News report highlights how the much-anticipated project aims to inject new energy into Miami Beach’s already dynamic hospitality scene.

A Convention Game Changer in the Making

Once complete in 2027, the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach will feature 800 luxuriously appointed guest rooms, expansive convention and meeting facilities, and vibrant ground-floor retail. Developers envision it as a strategic anchor for the Miami Beach Convention Center District—bringing synergy between tourism, business, and high-end hospitality.

“Now that construction financing is secured and public support is on our side, we’re excited to bring this landmark project to life,” shared David Martin, CEO of Terra, and Jackie Soffer, CEO of Turnberry, in a joint release. The sentiment reflects a broader optimism surrounding the impact the Grand Hyatt will have—not just on Miami Beach—but on the regional economy. At its construction peak, over 500 workers are expected to be on-site, creating a significant employment boost.

Bold Design Meets Business Vision

The Grand Hyatt Miami Beach is more than just another luxury hotel. Its strategic position and comprehensive amenities make it a linchpin in Miami’s growing reputation as a global destination for major conferences, events, and upscale tourism. As construction progresses, the project promises to redefine what convention hotels can offer in both form and function.

When it opens its doors in 2027, the hotel is expected to catalyze a ripple effect across the hospitality and retail sectors in South Florida, boosting demand for nearby developments and reinforcing Miami Beach’s standing as a high-demand travel and business locale.
